The 4 Basic Types of Supplements

  1. vitamins
  • A vitamin is a chemically organic substance (meaning it contains carbon) essential for regulating both the metabolic functions within the cells and the biochemical processes that release energy from food. certain vitamins are anti-oxidants - they protect tissue from cell damage and may possibly help prevent a number of degenerative disease.
  • with a few exceptions (notably vitamins D and K), the body cannot manufacture vitamins, so the must be ingested in food or nutritional supplements. there are known 15 known vitamins, which can be categorised as either fat-soluble( A,D,E and K) or water soluble ( 10 B vitamins and C). the body stores fat-soluble vitamins for long periods ( months or even years) water soluble vitamins ( except for vitamins B12) remain in the body for short time and must be replenished more frequently.

  • minerals are present in your body in small amounts. all together, they add up to only 4% of body weight. yet these inorganic substances are essential for a wide range of vital process, from basic bone formation to the normal functioning of the heart and digestive system. some minerals have been linked to the prevention of cancer, osteoporosis and a number of other chronic illness.
  • as with most vitamins, humans must replenish their mineral supply through food or with supplements. the body contains more than 60 different minerals, but only 22 are considered essential. of these, 7- calcium,  chloride, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium sodium and sulphur- are desigeneted macrominerals or major minerals.
  • the other 15 minerals are termed trence minerals ,or microminerals because the  amount thah the body requires  each day for good health is tiny.

  • herbal supplements are prepared from plants and can use the leaves,stems, roots, bark buds and/or flowers. known for century as medical agent,many plant port can be use in their natural form,or they can be defined into tablets,capsule,powders,tinctures,creams and other supplement formulations
  • Many herbs have several active compund that intract with one another to produce a theraputic effect.A herbal supplement may contain all of the compound found in a plant or just one or two of the isolated compund that have been successfully extracted.
  • The majority of herbal remedies are use to treat chronics or mild health.Problem.

  • Nutrients include diverse products.Some are food substances that,according to scientist,porssess diseases fighting potential.One example is fish oil,which may help reduce high trglycerilde levels,protect against an irregular heartbeat and stave of depression.Flavonoids,soy isoflavones and carotinoids are example of phytochemical-compound fruit and vegetables that work to lower the risk of some diseases and may alleviate the symptoms of some conditions.
  • Other nutritional supplements such as melatonin and coenzymes Q10,are substances in the body that can be recreated synthetically in a lab.
